Cape Cod Photography - Kate Murphy Lowenstein Photography

Welcome to my blog! I am a family portrait and wedding photographer based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. My style is casual and classy; modern and classic; creative and fun! My passion is capturing natural and genuine expressions of the people I photograph using natural light and creating "real life images".

My enthusiasm for photography began nine years ago when I borrowed my friend's SLR (film) camera for my honeymoon. It was then I discovered I had a talent for photography. I took classes and seminars, read books and immersed myself in photography and dreamed that someday I would be a photographer.

Forward nine years and I am a wife, mother of three, and a photographer. I wear flip flops or Uggs and jeans almost every day. I love to dress up on special occasions. I love the beach. I love meeting new people and spending time getting to know them. I love to capture who a person is, their genuine smiles, their interaction with the people they love. I think a person's eyes tell a lot about who they are, and I love getting so close to their eyes that I cut off their head in the photograph.

Rather than rambling on about myself, below is a glimpse into both my personal and professional life featuring images from my photo shoots as well as my family and friends. All in all, I hope my blog gives you a sense of who I am and what I'm all about...

Check back frequently for what's happening and studio specials.

Thanks for visiting!

Engagement Session: Osterville

Meet Laura and Mike - another of my couples I didn't get the chance to meet before they hired me for their wedding (next month). We did everything over the phone up until last Friday when I got the chance to meet them at Mike's parent's home in Osterville.

And to my delight, they were adorable! (Oh Mike's probably going to hate that I just called him adorable).

After some shots at the house, we headed to Dowse's Beach with their dog, Sammy...

...who clearly didn't want to be left out!

My favorite time to photograph on the beach is in June when the beach roses are in bloom and the sun has a golden glow.

Just beautiful, Laura!

These two both have gorgeous smiles!

This was the last frame I shot. I told them to make it a good one. They nailed it!

Indoor/Outdoor Session

I've known C's Mom and Dad for years! I met them while working at the Chart Room back in the (dare I say it?!) 80's. Incidentally, the Chart Room is where they met and and also where I met my husband and my sister met her husband, and a handful of my friends met their husbands... It's a little strange all the Chart Room romances that have turned into marriages and offspring!

I photographed their family a few years ago and their two beautiful daughters. Here's the newest (and last!) member of their family.

This is the look that I get from most of the kids when I start photographing them in the studio. Maybe that's why I love it so much.

After getting a little bored with me making silly noises, ridiculous faces, etc, etc., we headed outside for a few more. This little boy doesn't like to walk. He likes to RUN!

This is my fave!

Too cute!

Studio session

Two years ago I photographed Chris & Carrie's super fun wedding at Ballymead. Now they have a new addition to their family! Meet Little Miss R! She was very happy our whole session and didn't mind being changed a bunch of times. She is as sweet as she is cute!

There's nothing like a toothless, wrinkled-nose grin!

And the last I leave you with is my favorite!

So good to see you again and meet your little beauty, Carrie!

My friend, Suzanne, came to visit last weekend and brought along her adorable son. I met him once before - I think he was about 3 months old at the time. He is now almost two and so cute (and busy as most 2-year-old boys). It was tough to keep him in one spot, so we just let him run around the yard and play!

Just look at that face!

Here he is playing ball with Clyde.

What two-year-old doesn't like this?

Mama love.

Since he and Clyde got along so well, I didn't think Suzanne would mind Clyde in her photo ;-).

The noon sun was harsh, but I couldn't resist this one for the look on his face as he runs into the arms of his Mom.

We bribed him with a cookie and even though there's a little cookie on his face, this is my favorite!

Thanks for coming down to visit, Suzanne! I hope you come back in July for some more fun!

Friday night engagement session

Inspired by a seminar by Joe Buissink, a top-rated celebrity wedding photographer, I dusted off my film camera and grabbed a roll of B&W and headed off to Bourne Farm Friday night. Although I don't yet have the results of the film I shot (oh, that's the killer thing about film is the waiting!), here are some of the digital images.

The beautiful bling!

Do you see the heart?

Oooohhhh! DEEEELICIOUS light! And I was so happy to see the wheatgrass hadn't yet been mowed. Last year I went to shoot here and found a bare field!

I loved the following series not only for the yummy light and grasses, but because of their playfulness together.

See you on September 5th as you tie the knot!
